Limestone District School Board Chair and Vice-Chair Elected for 2025-2026

Youth Imagine the Future

A Message from Southeast Public Health

Dear Families,We are sharing the following letter from Southeast Public Health, which contains important information for families:<hr>Dear parents, guardians and staff:RE: First Influenza A Confirmed Case of the SeasonPlease be advised that Southeast Public Health (SEPH) has received laboratory confirmation of the first case of influenza A for the 2025-2026 season. We are providing this information so that you will be able to take steps to ensure the best protection possible for yourself and your family.Influenza causes mild to severe illness and can lead to serious health complications, even in healthy children and adults. Immunization is the best way to prevent influenza; even in years when there is a strain mismatch, the flu vaccine will still offer some protection. The influenza vaccine (flu shot) is available free of charge to anyone who lives, works or goes to school in Ontario who is 6 months of age and over. Contact your health-care provider or local pharmacy for your influenza vaccine if your family has not yet been immunized. For children under 5 years of age who cannot receive their immunization from their health-care provider, <a href="https://southeastph.ca/health-topics/respiratory-season-vaccines/" class="editor-link">Southeast Public Health is offering clinics</a>.Next to immunization, the single most important way to prevent the spread of infection is to clean hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers should only be used for children if they are assisted and should be stored out of reach of young children.The symptoms of influenza include:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">fever (greater than 38.0°C/100.4 °F)</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">dry cough</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">chills</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">headache</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">muscle aches</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">loss of appetite</li><li value="7" class="editor-listitem">sore throat</li><li value="8" class="editor-listitem">runny nose</li></ul> Young children may also experience nausea and vomiting with the above symptoms.If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home until they are fever-free and their symptoms have improved for at least 24 hours (or 48 hours if they’ve had vomiting or diarrhea). When your child returns to school, we encourage them to wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days from when their symptoms started to help keep others healthy. Limestone and KCHC Launch Student Support Program Backed by Community Foundation Grant

Sydenham High School Post Secondary Update # 2

Sydenham High SchoolPost Secondary Update #2 This information was presented at the Grade 12 Parent/Guardian Information Session on Wednesday, October 8th, 2025.          Ontario College Application - Now Open for September 2026 Programs The Ontario college application is completely online through the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) -<a href="https://www.ontariocolleges.ca/en/apply-now" class="editor-link">application link</a>. You create your own username and password for this application. The application costs $150 and you can apply to 5 programs (with no more than 3 programs being at the same college). Your application will not be processed until the application fee is paid.  The equal consideration deadline for college programs is February 1st, 2026, so it is extremely important that your application is completed and paid for by this date. Some programs are competitive and will fill up by February 1st, so it is recommended that you complete your application by Friday, December 19th, 2025. To complete the application you will require your Ontario Education Number (OEN) and student number.  These can be found on a school transcript or report card. If you need help finding these, please see either myself or Aymee in Student Services. Your high school marks are uploaded to OCAS by the school. If you are applying to a college outside of Ontario, please let me know as a transcript must be sent directly to the out-of-province college. When applying please use a personal email address that you use regularly as all information will be sent to this email. Our sports teams are wrapping up their fall season, good luck to our Football teams entering play-offs this week, and our teams who are advancing to EOSSA! A big congratulations to our Girls Field Hockey team who won Silver at KASSAA Finals this past Friday in a very close 1-0 game. Also, a big congratulations to Claire Wang who competed at OFSAA and finished 87th out of a huge number of athletes. Midterm report cards are also coming up. We encourage families to discuss progress with your student and make plans with classroom teachers if your student is struggling. We are here to offer support, and want to work together to ensure your student's success. Remember that daily attendance improves academic achievement so continue to promote regular school attendance. This month we are highlighting our Technology Department.This time of year is busy in tech classes as students practice and learn new skills. Students are preparing for the upcoming Holiday Showcase, November 29th at Sydenham High School, making cutting boards and shelves, sweet treats and take home cooking kits, as well as 3D printed keychains and ornaments. To help us better understand how students’ identities and experiences relate to their achievement and well-being, we are launching our second See Yourself in Limestone Student Census Survey this fall.The census is a voluntary and confidential survey for students in Grades 4 to 12, running from November 24 to 28, 2025. It gathers information about students’ identities and their experiences at school.
