What's Happening at Sydenham High School
April 2026
Boys Hockey at OFSAA
We are so proud of our Boys Varsity hockey team on going undefeated in the regular season, KASSAA playoffs, EOSSA, and OFSSA until the gold medal game. Our team played an amazing final game, proving their resiliency and determination, taking the number one ranked team to overtime. The season has been exciting with so much to celebrate, from repeat KASSAA Champions, to winning Gold at EOSSA and finishing with silver at OFSSA. Congratulations to all the players, and coaches Mr. Shane Cook and Tim Hollis. A huge thank you to our fans who came out to support.
Youth and Money Event
Our Youth and Money event is scheduled for April 1st, 2026. We will have a keynote speaker and two break out sessions: saving for post secondary (RESP, TFSA) and one on Scholarships and Bursaries. Admission is free, event starts at 6:30 PM in our library.
SHS Science Department in the News
Things are always bubbling (sometimes literally) in the Science Department! This semester so far, students have been busy asking big questions, testing ideas, and occasionally discovering that not every experiment goes exactly as planned, but that is often where the best learning happens.
Our Grade 9 and 10 science classes, led by Mr. Nash, Ms. May, and Mr. Smith, are building strong foundations across biology, chemistry, physics, and earth and space science. From investigating ecosystems and exploring the particle theory of matter to studying electricity and climate systems, students are developing the skills to think critically and understand the world around them.
For our seniors, Ms. Kresin’s Chemistry classes are exploring atoms, bonding, and reactions, and learning why some combinations work beautifully while others don’t. Mr. Walsh’s physics classes are investigating motion, energy, and forces, while confirming something we already know, what goes up must come down! In Biology, Mr. Cashol has students delving into the complexity of living systems, from cells and genetics to body systems, with an emphasis on how the human body functions and maintains balance. Ms. May’s Health Science class is examining human health, disease, and the impact of lifestyle choices and medical advances on overall well-being. In Environmental Science, Mr. Smith’s students are studying human impacts on the environment and sustainability while engaging in discussions around real-world solutions to environmental challenges.
Our classrooms and labs are full of hands-on activities, problem-solving, and plenty of “why does this happen?” or "what went wrong"? moments. We continue to emphasize safe lab practices, critical thinking, and the ability to make sense of evidence as these are invaluable skills that extend well beyond any science class.
Science reminds us that in the real world, curiosity can spark in unexpected ways. As a department, we are proud of the curiosity and perseverance our students bring each day, and we look forward to more experiments, discoveries, and the occasional surprising result as the semester continues!

Concussion Protocol
SHS is committed to student safety, injury prevention, and well-being, and supports concussion awareness, prevention, identification, management, tracking, and training. Our point of contact is Ms. Ash Ward, Vice Principal.
Our LDSB Concussion Policy/Concussion Code of Conduct is here as well to ensure we work together to support our students if a concussion is suspected or diagnosed.
Threat/Risk Assessment Notification and Process
The Limestone District School Board and community partners are committed to making our schools safe for students and staff. As a result, schools will respond to all student behaviours that pose a potential risk to other students, staff, and community members. The Community Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process is designed to be proactive in developing intervention plans that address the emotional and physical safety of those involved. Families are asked to review the steps of a Threat/Risk Assessment online.
