Hello SHS Students and Families,
Again, with a busy week at SHS, we are sending along details about upcoming events to ensure our communication can ensure events run smoothly and that you are well informed.
Parent/Guardian Night - Wednesday, October 8th (TONIGHT) – 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM
This event is held in our GYM & CAFETERIA – Easiest entry is Door C or Door D (accessible) off the lower back parking lot. Staff will be available in these locations and sign up was completed on School-Day. If you arrive without appointments scheduled, there will be an opportunity to still sign up if spots are available. Each appointment slot is 5 minutes in length; we ask all parent/guardians to be respectful of the time so that appointments stay on track. If a longer discussion is necessary, you are encouraged to set another time with the teacher.
Parent/Guardian University Information Session (Grade 12 Parents/Students) - Wednesday, October 8th, 5:30pm-6:30pm in the LIBRARY.
** Change of Location - the information session will now be held in the library.
You are invited to attend an information session on Wednesday, October 8th from 5:30pm-6:30pm in the library (this is prior to the start of Parent/Guardian Night). I will be discussing important information about post-secondary planning, the college/university application process, scholarships and graduation. This presentation was shared with all Grade 12 students on Tuesday, September 23rd in period 2 and is posted on the Grade 12 Google Classroom.
Academic Awards – Thursday, October 9th, 10 am in the MAIN GYM
We will be celebrating our 38th Annual Academic Awards Ceremony, in the gymnasium at 10:00 am. This is a very special event at which we celebrate students who have obtained Honours (80%) or Honours with Distinction (90%) standing in their previous year courses. Students did receive an email stating if they are receiving an award with an invitation for parents/guardians to attend. Congratulations to all our students being recognized for their academic success.
Red & Gold Spirit Day & Pep Rally (11:40 - Lunch) - Thursday, October 9th.
Tomorrow, students and staff are encouraged to wear Red and Gold to celebrate and show our Spirit. As part of our heritage, we will invite all students to our Fall Pep Rally where we will acknowledge our teams and clubs, as well as take part in the Bubbaloo cheer. Students will also have the opportunity to play a game for some SHS swag.
Bubba Bowl – Thursday, October 9th at the Sydenham Point
We are looking forward to kicking off the Thanksgiving long weekend with Bubba Bowl. Our Jr Football team plays against LSS at 6:30 PM and our Sr Football team plays at 8:30 PM. Admission to watch the game is $2.00. The gate will open at 5:30 PM.
The Bubba Bowl is a school event, and as such, the SHS code of conduct applies before and throughout the evening. We are welcoming LSS to the Bubba Bowl, which is also a regular KASSAA football game, and as visitors to Sydenham, I know that LSS will be treated with respect and excellent sportsmanship.
The Bubba Bowl must be an alcohol-free event. To ensure that this is the case, the Township has approved no parking at the point and field areas. The road into the point area will be closed, but there will be an area for individuals with mobility challenges to be dropped off.
The main entrance to The Point will be the only entry point to the game. Parking will be accommodated at Sydenham High School or Loughborough Public School. All bags that are brought into the game will be checked at the main entrance.
We are looking forward to an all ages, fun, safe and alcohol-free student and family event. We will have a canteen, opportunity to win prizes (Yeti Cooler), and limited clothing for sale (cash or tap).
Finally, thank you to the Township and volunteers, who without their support, the Bubba Bowl would not be possible. Thank you for your continued support and good luck to our Junior and Senior Football teams.
