KFL&A Public Health Notice of an Outbreak in School Sydenham Secondary School Dec. 22, 2021

One student on Dec. 21 and one student on Dec. 20: both cases were already self-isolating so no new impact on school community.

One student on Dec. 19: this case was already isolating.

Previous cases were confirmed in a student on Dec. 18 resulting on one cohort being directed to isolate and one case in a student on Dec. 16. It has been determined that that case posed no risk to students or staff and no cohorts were required to isolate.

Instances when a positive case in a school poses no risk to the school include:
• The case is learning or teaching virtually and has not been in the school.
• The case was already isolating and not attending school because they were previously identified as a close contact of a case.
• The case was not present at the school when they were infectious.

KFL&A Public Health works closely with schools to ensure that necessary steps are taken to prevent further spread of the virus both in the school and the community.

Families are encouraged to continue to monitor and screen students daily for symptoms of COVID-19 as most cases of COVID-19 are acquired in the home setting. Do not send students to school if they are sick or symptomatic. Please continue to follow all public health guidelines which include maintaining physical distance, wearing face coverings, and cleaning your hands frequently.
