New Graduation Requirement – e-Learning (Students currently in Grades 9 or 10)
The Ministry of Education has issued a new online learning graduation requirement, effective February 1, 2022, requiring students to complete two online courses prior to Graduation. Students in Grade 10 during the 2021-2022 school year are the first students needed to meet this new e-learning graduation requirement. One secondary school credit earned by Grade 9 students in the 2020-2021 school year during the provincial-wide school closure (April 2020 to June 2021) may count towards one of the two online learning credits.

Most students will take e-learning courses during their grade 11 and/or grade 12 years, but some may elect to complete the online learning requirement during Summer School.

At SHS, on March 07, Student Services staff will visit Grade 10 classes and begin the course selection process for the 2022-2023 school year, including e-learning.  Our team will include an explanation of the e-learning opportunities available through SHS, LDSB, and the Ontario e-Learning Consortium (OeLC).  We will also carefully review the course selections for each student and communicate with families/guardians.

Parents who determine they want to opt their child out of the mandatory online learning credits will have the option to complete the opt-out form during the student’s graduating year.  Parents can obtain the form from their child’s guidance counsellor during that year.

For more information, including a list of questions and answers, go to LDSB Online Learning Graduation Requirement.
