A quote the Golden Eagle's baseball club will have to keep in mind heading in to the 2009 season. Last year was Sydenham's first season in the competetive high school league; consequently, sydenham was labelled as an underdog to the four and five year-old teams. The team went from try-outs on a puddle- filled soccer field, to practices on a diamond much too small for the talent at the plate, to finally the KASSAA finals where they were given a new label - "Champions." After a hard fought battle vs the LaSalle Black Knights, the Golden Eagles were able to squeek out a 10-9 victory after extra innings. "We are entering our second season with expectations, last year we were just trying to establish a team, this year we are defending a championship and every team will be looking to beat us", stated starting catcher, Murray Hodgson. The team has begun practicing almost a month earlier then last year and is taking this year very seriously. Anything but another KASSAA championship win will be a disappointment in their minds. This years team was chosen after two weeks of competitve try-outs, and will be starting their season in two to three weeks. Coaches, Mr.Swaine and Mr.Verner would like to thank everyone who came to try out and give a huge congratulations to those who have been selected. (Look for weekly updates)
